I have embedded a customised Google map in my blog. As you can see the <iframe> tag leaves a lot to be desired. Flickr and Bing also provide maps. Flickr is image hosting site where users can upload their own content, tag and map their photos, in short. Their map service provider is powered by Leaflet 'An Open-Source JavaScript Library for Mobile-Friendly Interactive Maps.' The benefits of Leaflet's API is that it's not so reliant on Google's account service which requires you to login to view certain user created maps. This privacy setting can be set to public and even then the level of customisation in Google Maps isn't as extensive compared to Leaflets interface. I should mention that Leaflet is powered by Open Street Maps: http://www.openstreetmap.org/ A free worldwide map created by users.
